Bonanza Festival drops you right into the mountains of Heber, Utah, and if you've never been to Heber Valley, you're in for a surprise. This is ski country in the winter, but come summer it transforms into a wide-open playground surrounded by the Wasatch Range.
The festival books a mix of indie rock, electronic, and hip-hop acts that you won't find on every other festival circuit. Past lineups have featured Chet Faker, Lauryn Hill and Nas, and Odesza, plus a deep undercard of artists who are about to have their moment. It's the kind of lineup where you discover your new favorite band between headliner sets.
What makes Bonanza different is the setting. You're at elevation, the air is crisp, and the mountains are right there. The festival grounds are spacious and clean, and the crowd tends to be more relaxed than your typical big-city festival. People are actually friendly here - the Utah hospitality is real.
Camping is part of the experience, and the sites are well-organized with enough space that you don't wake up to a stranger's tent three inches from your face. If camping isn't your thing, Heber and nearby Park City have plenty of hotels and Airbnbs.
The festival runs in late June, which means long days and perfect temperatures. Layer up for the evening sets when the mountain air cools down. And don't skip the food vendors - Utah's food scene has quietly gotten very good.
