Detroit Lions
Thanksgiving traditions since '34, a new-era roar, and Honolulu Blue pride. Ford Field is waking up.
Upcoming Events
Ford Field in downtown Detroit is one of the coolest indoor stadiums in the NFL. The glass facade on the south end lets natural light flood in, and the old Hudson's warehouse wall is literally built into the stadium structure. It's a tribute to Detroit's past wrapped in a modern football arena, and it works beautifully.
Lions fans have endured more than almost any fanbase in sports. Decades of losing, heartbreak on top of heartbreak, and still they show up every Sunday wearing Honolulu Blue with their heads held high. The 2023-2024 season changed everything though - Dan Campbell's team brought a toughness and energy that finally matched the city, and Ford Field became one of the hardest places to play in the NFL. The crowd was legitimately terrifying.
The Thanksgiving game is the Lions' crown jewel. Detroit has hosted the Thanksgiving Day game since 1934, and it's one of the most beloved traditions in football. Whether the Lions win or lose, that game is the backdrop for millions of families' holiday celebrations. It's bigger than football at this point.
Before the game, Greektown is right there for pre-game eats - Pegasus for a gyro plate or Sweet Lorraine's if you want something fancier. After the game, head to Midtown or Corktown - the craft brewery scene in Detroit is booming, and Batch Brewing and Founders Brewing (they have a Detroit taproom now) are both excellent. Lions game day in Detroit is about more than football. It's about a city that refuses to quit. And right now? They've got real reason to roar.
