American Family Field has a retractable roof that opens like a fan - literally, the panels fold over each other like a paper fan. It's one of the coolest stadium designs in sports. When the roof is open on a summer afternoon in Milwaukee, there's no better place to watch a baseball game with a beer in your hand. And speaking of beer... you're in Milwaukee. You're going to drink some.
The Brewers tailgate scene is elite. The parking lots open hours before first pitch, and the grills come out immediately. Brats are the star - grilled, simmered in beer and onions, served on a hard roll. This isn't stadium-vendor bratwurst. These are homemade-recipe, brought-from-home, family-secret brats. It's a competition out there, and everyone's winning.
The Sausage Race is a mid-game tradition where people in giant sausage costumes sprint around the warning track. It's exactly as ridiculous and amazing as it sounds, and the crowd goes absolutely nuts for it. If you don't pick a sausage to root for, are you even at a Brewers game?
Inside the park, grab a Johnsonville brat (the official park version) and a Spotted Cow from New Glarus Brewing - you can only get it in Wisconsin, so take advantage. After the game, the bars on Bluemound Road and in the Third Ward downtown are ready for you. Milwaukee doesn't get the national hype, but the locals know: game day here is top-tier. Come see for yourself.
