Summer Camp Music Festival is three days of jam bands, funky grooves, and Midwestern hospitality in the middle of Chillicothe, Illinois. If you've never heard of Chillicothe, that's kind of the point. You're out in the country, camping under the stars, and the only thing on your agenda is music.
The lineup is a jam band lover's dream. We're talking moe., Umphrey's McGee, Trey Anastasio Band, and a deep roster of artists who aren't afraid to improvise for forty-five minutes straight. If you like your music predictable, this isn't your festival. If you like watching a band go somewhere nobody expected, welcome home.
The campgrounds at Three Sisters Park are spacious enough that you don't feel like sardines, which is a luxury at a camping festival. There's room to spread out, set up your tailgate, and actually enjoy the downtime between sets. People bring grills, lawn games, and enough coolers to supply a small army.
Late-night sets are a Summer Camp tradition. After the main stages shut down, the party moves to smaller stages where artists play deep cuts and sit-ins happen constantly. You might catch your favorite guitarist jumping on stage with a band they've never played with before. That's the magic of it.
The festival runs over Memorial Day weekend, so you already have the Monday off. No excuses. Grab your Summer Camp tickets and head to Three Sisters Park.
