NRG Stadium has a retractable roof, which in Houston means it's basically closed every game because the humidity outside would knock you out by the second quarter. The good news? Inside, the air conditioning is pumping and the game-day atmosphere is pure Texas energy. The bull mascot Toro is out there doing backflips and the crowd is loud from the opening kickoff.
Texans fans have only been at this since 2002, making them one of the youngest fanbases in the NFL. But what they lack in history, they make up for in intensity. This city was starving for football after the Oilers left, and when the Texans arrived, Houston went all in. The new era with C.J. Stroud and DeMeco Ryans has given this fanbase a legitimate reason to believe they're building something special.
The tailgate outside NRG is everything you'd expect from Texas. Massive smokers running full briskets, Tex-Mex spreads that could feed a small army, and enough Shiner Bock to float a boat. The lots open early and the party doesn't stop until well after kickoff. If you're not full before you even enter the stadium, you're doing it wrong.
Before the game, check out the restaurants along Kirby Drive or swing by Saint Arnold Brewing Company - Houston's oldest craft brewery. After the game, Midtown and Montrose are where the action shifts. Houston is a massive city with massive energy, and on game day, all of it funnels into NRG Stadium. Come hungry, come loud, and come ready for that Texas heat - even if the roof is closed, you'll feel it in the parking lot.
