Tropicana Field is... look, we're not going to pretend it's the nicest stadium in baseball. It's an indoor dome with artificial turf and lighting that makes everyone look slightly pale. But here's the thing - the Rays keep putting competitive teams on the field despite playing in the smallest market in baseball with one of the lowest payrolls. They're basically the Moneyball movie, but the movie never ends.
Rays fans who show up are genuine - they know the game, they appreciate the organizational smarts, and they recognize when they're watching something special even when the national media ignores it. The team's ability to develop pitching and find diamonds in the rough is genuinely impressive.
Tampa-St. Pete has a lot going for it. Ybor City for Cuban sandwiches (the real ones, not the airport kind), Armature Works for the food hall experience, and Clearwater Beach if you want to end the night properly. Find Rays tickets on Evil Tickets and root for the scrappy underdogs who do more with less than anyone in the sport.
