Philadelphia Flyers
The Broad Street Bullies built the template in the 70s. Wells Fargo Center is where South Philly intensity gets channeled into hockey. Bring your opinions and leave your excuses at the door.
Upcoming Events
Wells Fargo Center holds about 19,543 for hockey and sits in South Philadelphia on Broad Street alongside Citizens Bank Park and Lincoln Financial Field. The three-venue complex means South Philly on a game night handles the full spectrum of Philadelphia sports fandom - the culture is consistent across all of them. Flyers fans are knowledgeable, opinionated, and not going to pretend otherwise. The Bobby Clarke era Broad Street Bullies - two Cups in 1974 and 1975, a team built explicitly around physical intimidation - established the franchise identity and it has never fully departed.
Xfinity Live! on Pattison Avenue across from the sports complex is the purpose-built pregame destination for this neighborhood - a large sports bar complex with multiple bars and restaurants under one roof that handles the before and after crowd for all three venues. Pat's King of Steaks and Geno's Steaks at 9th and Passyunk are about a mile north and worth the detour if you have time and want the authentic South Philly cheesesteak argument experience. The SEPTA Broad Street Line drops you at Pattison station across the street from the building - parking in the lots surrounding the venues is available but slow to exit after the game.
The Flyers have been building toward their next contender cycle and the fan base shows up regardless. A playoff game in South Philly is one of the louder, more visceral environments in North American professional sports.
