The Herberger isn't a touring stopover, and that's exactly the point. It's home base for Arizona Theatre Company, Center Dance Ensemble, and Actors Theatre, which means the programming runs deeper and more community-connected than the road-show circuit ever does. There are two main rooms here: the 800-seat Center Stage and the more intimate 350-seat Stage West, plus outdoor performance spaces for when the Phoenix weather actually cooperates.
If you want the bigger production with full-house energy, Center Stage is your pick. Want to feel like you're practically standing in the scene? Stage West gets you that close. The season spans drama, comedy, dance, and musical theater across the resident companies, so the smart play is to check what's actually running before you buy, because no two weekends here look the same.
Location-wise it could not be easier: it's right on Monroe Street in downtown Phoenix, walkable from the light rail and parked in the middle of the downtown entertainment corridor. Make a night of it with dinner nearby and a show after. Pull up tickets to whatever the companies are staging on Evil Tickets and back the troupes that actually call Phoenix home.
