Red Rocks is the greatest concert venue on the planet. We're not being dramatic - that's just a fact that pretty much every artist, fan, and music journalist on Earth agrees on. Two massive sandstone monoliths, 9,525 seats carved into the mountainside, and acoustics that mother nature designed better than any engineer ever could. It's sixteen miles west of Denver in Morrison, Colorado, and it's absolutely worth the trip from literally anywhere.
The Beatles played here. U2 filmed "Under a Blood Red Sky" here. Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Incubus - the list of legendary shows at Red Rocks reads like the entire history of live music compressed into one venue. And it's not just nostalgia and legacy. The venue hosts over 100 events per year and the lineup is always stacked - from jam bands and EDM to country, hip-hop, classical, and everything in between.
Here's what nobody tells you about Red Rocks until you're already huffing up the stairs: the altitude is real. You're at 6,450 feet, so hydrate before you go and take the stairs slow. Bring layers too - Denver can be 85 degrees during the day and 55 by the time the headliner comes on. For food, Ship Rock Grille is right at the venue for convenience, but the real move is eating in Morrison beforehand. Try the Morrison Inn for a solid burger and a beer in a divey, locals-only kind of spot that hasn't changed in decades.
If Red Rocks isn't on your concert bucket list, put it there right now. Then cross it off. Find upcoming shows on Evil Tickets and experience what all the fuss is about. Spoiler: it lives up to the hype and then some.
