The Fillmore is Denver's big general-admission room and it's an absolute blast to see a show here. With a capacity of around 3,900, it's the largest non-arena concert venue in the city, and the calendar is always loaded with names that are too big for the clubs but bring a rawer energy than an arena show ever could. This is the sweet spot of live music - big enough to feel like an event, small enough that you can actually see the artist's face.
Located on Colfax and Clarkson (yes, that Colfax - the longest commercial street in America and one of Denver's most eclectic strips), the Fillmore has been booking diverse lineups for years and years. Chris Stapleton, Leon Bridges, Meek Mill, Khruangbin, Griz - the talent that comes through here covers every genre and the room handles all of them well. The sound system is powerful and clear, the floor has decent sightlines if you get there early enough, and there's a balcony upstairs if you prefer to watch from above with a drink in your hand.
For pre-show food, you're in a great spot on Colfax. Pete's Kitchen is a Colfax institution that serves Greek-diner food 24 hours a day - get the gyro plate, you won't regret it. Tacos Tequila Whiskey is a few blocks west and does exactly what the name promises. Or grab a slice at Sexy Pizza (yes, that's the real name and yes, it's good) and keep it quick before doors open so you can get a good spot on the floor.
If you want the big-show energy without the arena overhead and corporate feel, the Fillmore is your spot. Check out what's coming up on Evil Tickets.
