Footprint Center is a solid downtown arena with good sight lines throughout and a location that works well for making a full evening of it. The entertainment district on the blocks surrounding the arena has filled in considerably in recent years - Roosevelt Row to the north and a stretch of bars and restaurants on nearby streets give you real options for pregame and postgame. The Suns have been a playoff team and the arena energy on big game nights reflects it.
The Mercury have their own committed fanbase and the WNBA atmosphere here is genuinely good - the building configuration works well for the smaller WNBA footprint and the crowd-to-arena ratio creates a tighter feel. For concerts, Footprint Center books consistently and the 18,000-seat capacity hits the right range for mid-to-large touring acts. Phoenix Metro light rail stops at 3rd St/Jefferson station, which is walkable to the arena - skip the parking and take the train from downtown or Tempe.
