Story of the Year and SilversteinWhite Oak Music Hall - Downstairs - Houston, TX |
The genius of White Oak is that it's really three venues stacked on one campus. There's an indoor club, a covered downstairs room, and a big outdoor lawn up top that holds a few thousand - with the downtown Houston skyline sitting right behind the stage as your backdrop. On a busy night, shows run across all of it at once. The programming skews indie and alternative with a heavy dose of hip-hop and electronic, so the crowd shifts depending on which stage you're chasing.
You're in the Near Northside, about two miles north of downtown. Pre-show, the area's got casual taquerias and divey bars within an easy walk, and if you want to start higher up, the Raven Tower on the property has a rooftop bar with skyline views. Outdoor lawn show on a clear night with that skyline lit up is the move - get there before sunset for it.
Indoor club intimacy or that lawn-and-skyline thing, White Oak does both well. Find upcoming shows on Evil Tickets and lock in your Houston night.
