Los Angeles Event & Entertainment Guide
LA is a city where you eat tacos at midnight, see a band in a room that holds 200 people, and somehow still end up stuck in traffic. It's sprawling and ridiculous and genuinely one of the best live entertainment cities on earth.
The Stage
The Hollywood Bowl on a summer night is one of those experiences that makes you understand why people move here. Bring a bottle of wine, a blanket, and zero expectations about parking. The Troubadour in West Hollywood is where Elton John played his first US show - it still books incredible acts in a room so small you can see the sweat. Whisky a Go Go on the Sunset Strip has the history. The Moroccan Lounge downtown has the future.
Pantages Theatre in Hollywood does touring Broadway and it's drop-dead gorgeous inside. Kevin Hart and Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias both call LA home, and catching either of them at a smaller venue is worth rearranging your entire trip for.
Game Day
A Dodgers game at Chavez Ravine is a vibe - get a Dodger Dog, watch the sunset over the outfield, and try not to get emotional during the Vin Scully tribute. The Lakers at Crypto.com Arena are still a scene. Celebrity sightings are half the fun. Rams and Chargers games at SoFi Stadium - the building alone is worth the price of admission. The Angels in Anaheim are a solid play if you want baseball without the Dodger Stadium traffic.
Eat Up
Guisados in Boyle Heights does braised meat tacos that'll ruin Taco Tuesday for you permanently. Get the cochinita pibil and the chicharron. Howlin' Ray's in Chinatown for Nashville hot chicken - the line is long but the medium spice will still make you question your life choices. For a proper LA brunch, Sqirl in Silver Lake does the ricotta toast that broke the internet. It's actually that good.
Doomie's in Hollywood does vegan comfort food that will fool any carnivore. Pinky's on La Brea has loaded hot dogs that shouldn't work but absolutely do.
After Dark
The Satellite in Silver Lake for indie shows. The Echo and Echoplex for dance nights. Good Times at Davey Wayne's in Hollywood is a hidden-entrance cocktail bar inside a fake refrigerator door. Evil Tickets has your concerts, comedy, and games covered - you just handle the traffic. And the parking. And the 405. Good luck out there.
