The Dr. Phillips Center opened in 2014 on Magnolia Avenue in downtown Orlando and quickly became the city's serious room for the arts. It's not one theater - it's a complex. The 2,700-seat Walt Disney Theater handles the big Broadway tours and the Orlando Philharmonic, while the intimate 300-seat Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater takes the smaller, closer stuff. More halls are coming as the campus keeps expanding.
What makes a night here easy is the location. It's walkable from the Church Street nightlife stretch and the South Eola dining pocket, so you can make a real evening of it - grab a cocktail at The Stubborn Mule on South Eola Drive before curtain - and the SunRail commuter train stops close enough that you can skip the parking entirely. For a Broadway tour, splurge on the orchestra level of the Disney Theater; for chamber music or comedy, the smaller Pugh room is where you want to be.
Broadway, orchestra, dance, comedy - the programming covers a lot of ground without ever feeling thin. Browse what's coming to the Dr. Phillips Center on Evil Tickets and plan your downtown Orlando night out.
