This one's got a real backstory: an 1891 National Guard Armory rebuilt into a LEED Platinum performing arts space, one of the first historic buildings in the country to hit that certification. The restored industrial character is what carries the room, all exposed brickwork and original steel trusses, an atmosphere no other Portland theater can match and a big part of why a night here feels different.
There are two stages inside: the 600-seat Mainstage and the 200-seat Ellyn Bye Studio. The company leans hard into new American theater right alongside the established stuff, so you can catch something brand new or something proven depending on the night. The studio is the spot if you want to feel like you're right on top of the work.
It sits in the Pearl District, one of Portland's most walkable and dining-rich neighborhoods, which makes pairing a real dinner with a show genuinely easy instead of an afterthought.
