The Gothic is set just outside of Denver in Englewood, but don't let the address fool you - this venue is very much part of the Denver music scene and it absolutely earns a spot in your regular rotation. At around 1,100 capacity, it fills this perfect gap between the tiny Bluebird and the much larger Ogden, and the shows here always have this electric, packed-house energy that you can feel the second you walk through the door.
The room itself is a converted movie theater from the 1920s, which gives it this cool, slightly dark aesthetic that works perfectly for pretty much every genre you throw at it. Jai Wolf, Mura Masa, Easy Star All Stars - it's all good vibes here, and the eclectic booking means you never quite know what you're going to get on any given night. That's part of the charm of the Gothic. The sound is crisp, the floor has a gentle rake so sightlines are noticeably better than flat-floor venues, and the bar service is quick enough that you won't miss a song waiting in line.
Englewood isn't the most exciting neighborhood for pregame options, but it's getting better every year. Que Bueno Mexican Food across Broadway is cheap, solid, and exactly what you want before a show. If you drive up to South Broadway (SoBo), you're in one of Denver's best bar strips - Punch Bowl Social, Historians Ale House, and a dozen other great spots are all within just a few minutes of the venue.
The Gothic punches way above its weight for a venue its size. If something catches your eye on the calendar, don't sleep on it. Find Gothic shows on Evil Tickets and experience one of Denver's best-kept music secrets.
