The Arsht Center opened in 2006, came off the drawing board of architect Cesar Pelli, and ranks among the largest performing arts complexes in the United States. It's the home base for Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet, and the New World Symphony - serious resident companies under one roof, with two main halls joined by a pedestrian bridge.
Which hall you're in tells you the vibe. The 2,400-seat Ziff Ballet Opera House takes the big opera, ballet, and classical nights, while the 2,200-seat Knight Concert Hall flexes from classical to Broadway touring runs. On top of the resident companies, the center books its own presenting series - jazz, world music, and pop concerts - so the calendar stays a lot more varied than "the opera house."
It sits in the Omni neighborhood on Biscayne Boulevard, and the Metromover gets you there if you'd rather skip the parking and the downtown traffic that comes with a show night. Our advice: check which hall your event is in before you go, since the two buildings sit across the boulevard from each other and you don't want to sprint the pedestrian bridge at curtain time.
