Miami Event & Entertainment Guide
The Vibe
Miami hits different. Maybe it's the palm trees, maybe it's the bass rattling your chest from three blocks away, maybe it's the cafecito you just slammed at a Calle Ocho ventanita. Whatever it is, this city runs on a kind of energy you won't find anywhere else in the country - and the live entertainment scene matches it beat for beat.
Game Day
Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens is the big one. The Dolphins play here, sure, but this place also hosts the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, which went from zero to one of the hottest tickets on the planet in about two years. Tailgating in the Florida sun with a cooler full of Modelo is a whole vibe. Down on Biscayne Bay, Kaseya Center is where the Heat do their thing - the arena atmosphere during a playoff run is electric, and the waterfront setting doesn't hurt. The Marlins play at LoanDepot Park, which has a retractable roof - because watching baseball in the Miami heat without AC would be actual torture.
After Dark
Miami's DNA is electronic and Latin, and those two scenes run deep. Ultra Music Festival takes over Bayfront Park every March and basically turns downtown into the world's biggest outdoor club. Between Ultra, Art Basel's parties in December, and the steady rotation of DJs at clubs like LIV and E11EVEN (which literally never closes), Miami's nightlife reputation is well-earned. The Fillmore at Jackie Gleason Theater on South Beach handles the touring rock and indie acts, and the Adrienne Arsht Center is genuinely one of the best performing arts complexes in the Southeast if theater or ballet is your thing.
Eat This
Start in Little Havana - walk Calle Ocho, grab a cafecito from Versailles (it's a dollar and it'll hit harder than any espresso you've had), and order the ropa vieja while you're there. For seafood, Joe's Stone Crab in South Beach has been the move since 1913 - get there or regret it. In Wynwood, Coyo Taco has killer street tacos in the back of a bar (yes, literally in the back), and KYU does Asian barbecue that'll make you forget why you came to Miami for the beach.
Wander Around
Speaking of Wynwood - spend an afternoon here. The whole neighborhood is covered in massive murals, the galleries are free to wander, and the breweries and bars spill out onto the sidewalks. It's the kind of place where you walk in for one beer and leave four hours later. Pair it with a stroll down Ocean Drive at sunset and you've had a pretty perfect Miami day.
Sun, sound, and a scene that never sleeps. Evil Tickets has your way in.
When to Go
Ultra Music Festival every March at Bayfront Park is the flagship - if you care about electronic music at all, this is the one. December is Art Basel week, when performances and parties take over the entire city and hotel rooms cost three times what they should. Summer is locals-only season - tourists clear out, clubs are cheaper, and the beach is emptier. Heat season runs June through September, so plan outdoor stuff for evenings only.
